Sally O’Brien

BA, MPsych (Clinical)

I was born in the UK and emigrated to Australia in 1991 and commenced my undergraduate psychology studies at Monash University in Melbourne. I settled in Townsville in 1998 and completed my Master of Clinical Psychology at James Cook University.

I am a Clinical Psychologist with 18 years experience in rural areas as well as Townsville. I have developed a special interest in working with life transitions and I enjoy working with people from different backgrounds. I have worked collaboratively with Dr Mullen for many years and it made sense to join the holistic, open and welcoming space at Nautilus Health.

My approach is grounded in respect for you as an individual and I tailor your therapy needs to you personally. My goal is to look at distress from a number of different viewpoints. This includes background, current relationships, your style of relating and your own core personality, to alleviate distress and increase optimal functioning.

When you see me at Nautilus Health it is usually because Dr Mullen has identified a problem or issue and has referred you. If you have been referred through Medicare’s Better Access Scheme to work with a specific diagnosis, these sessions are subsidised by Medicare. This is a great opportunity to work together for a number of sessions. You may also choose to see me privately and in this case your private health fund may offer a rebate.
